Friday April 2nd, 00.25 AM…
The early hours of the morning on a weekday is not the ideal time in Holland ask people to watch you hanging on the telephone but since the call I was waiting for involved the chance of me going to Australia or not, my ever supportive mates decided I’d need supporting whichever way it went. Boy am I glad, it was the longest hour I’ve experienced in a long time!
Family and friends that couldn’t make it to be at the bar in the centre of Amsterdam were texting messages of good luck and even dared to call me! “So how it going Magz?”, “GET OFF THE PHONE!!!” How rudely I cut off these phone calls (sorry Dad!) but there was just one number I wanted to see on my phone display, and it started with +61. Waiting, waiting, waiting – praying for The Call. Then suddenly the phone buzzed and a man called Peter introduced himself.…
Do I need to use more words to explain this pumping adrenalin running trough my veins? That euphoric state, all kind of chemical craziness racing through my body? Although I experience many rushes, small and big ones, through the tiniest little moments in my daily life, this one went straight to the top of the list!
I’d invited Iris van Nispen, the other Dutch finalist to get our nerves together and double the bundle. The next 30 minutes were tough for Iris and I must say that she was a very sweet and “sporting” competitor, from the beginning until the very end. On the video you just saw, you can see Iris´ reaction and this confirmed my idea of inviting her to my future villa on Hamilton Island after the real work begins on the 1st of July.
Having opened the champagne and yelled some more “Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!” with my friends (and a few other enthusiastic types in the bar), it finally hit me just what new stage was dawning.
Talking of dawn, I have to make a small confession to you…
Due to the partying last night I had put my telephone on “silence mode” with the alarm at 10.00 AM. There I was dreaming of myself on a beach on a small island off the coast Australia (wonder which one?) when a giant alarm clock sidled up the sand and poked me in the ribs. Doh! Blurry eyed and fuzzy headed I’d been hitting ‘snooze’ on the phone that was disturbing my dreams, and by the first look on my phone I understood I missed a whole load of phone calls and messages. Not only from my family and friends but of course the media as well. “Ai Magz, that’s not a professional start”, I guiltily grumbled to myself.
Quick fix action was needed. I jumped in the shower, jumped out the shower, grabbed my dog Lluna and went for a walk in the park, accompanied by phone, agenda and a pen. In less then an hour I made myself feel better by planning interviews with newspapers and radio stations. Now, late afternoon, I planned some interviews.
It’s strange how quickly you can get used to something unfamiliar; talking about yourself in an ideal situation, promoting the brand “ME” and being cheered at all the time, where ever I am! I’m not arrogant – I’m just better than everyone else! Ha ha – joke! Actually I’m really a both-feet-on-the-ground type, so all this positive energy made my smile get wider and more intense for the last few days. Somehow Queensland had even managed to send some sun over to the Netherlands too. Thanks guys!
So to get back to my question to you – how would you feel…?
I would love to read about your euphoric feelings, keep it tidy though, so we can spread this energy around the globe…

Wow what a moment this was, you in the bar with your friends, Iris + her friend. The 2 of you being great sports. Queensland regonizing your talent on what they had seen so far. So much more for them and the rest of the world to discover. You go girl -we’re behind you every step of the way! X!

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic info being shared f…
